Tanking a brick wall

Hi everyone,

I am about to start installing a Wetroom for the first time and just wanted a little advice.

I have a solid wall that requires waterproofing. The wall has been taken back to the brick. I have to waterproof the wall and make sure it can hold the weight of marble tiles.

I am thinking of fixing a tile backer board to the wall using an spf adhesive. (Someone has suggested applying a concrete render to the wall but unfortunatley I don't think I'd be able to mange it properly) The questions I have are:

1) Is it ok to use Dura WP membrane on top of tile backer boards? or does this effect how much weight it can hold. (I have a roll of Dura WP membrane which I need to cover the floor)

2) What sort of tile backer board is relevant if I'm going to use a membrane over the top of it and what thickness do I need?

3) Can someone suggest an adhesive to use? Can I use the same adhesive for applying the membrane and tiles on all surfaces?

Tile backer boards don't usually need additional membrane protection as far as I am aware. You will need to seal the joints between boards though.

i also have to tank a brickwall, i was going to put a stud wall up with vapour barrier facing the wall and then plasterboard the outside and then use whatever tanking product i choose, but thinking if i might loose too much space. stud etc

What does everyone else think

What thickness board should I go for and how many fixings to the wall would I need to attach?

If you wanted to render the wall you could use 2 battons plumbed down the wall and render between them, then remove and fill in the gaps
