Stick it to the tray before install & then you Silicon the back edge to the wall with low mod Silicon.
That's the way the ones I've seen have been fitted.

lI do the other way, stick to tray, crimp external corner and stick to wall

Yeah I fit to tray first too.
It's like a bitumen type adhesive. But solid at first, a bit like plasticine.

I like to over lap the classi seal with tanking tape also, just to seal that joint, then I tape the internal corners. Nearly all my work is in fast track new builds and the shrinkage is shocking, this is a great way to deal with it. I haven't had a failure yet with it.
