Mapei technical leave a lot to be desired at times with their advice.
What difference a latex additive will make to it only they know, doesn't matter if it's an s2 or not, it's still cement based, sounds like they are missing the point.
Do yourself a favour & use AnhyFix. Lee @ Tiletown on here will sort you out.

just an update , tile master are saying for me to use the anti fracture mat they make , anyone used this to good effect?
