so true fekin.........but a recon engine for a ford escort is £350 fitted (in london).........and if all you have is £1000 to spend, can you name a better motor?.......

I wasn't actually replying to what you had said Protiler.... I had actually typed it, walked away from the computer for over 45mins, came back and realised I hadn't clicked submit reply, so it ended up being posted after everyone elses replies

1k will get you a decent van, i sold my car, used the money from that to buy all my tiling tools and bought a van for £350 :whatchutalkingabout cheap i know, its an N reg vauxhall combo, its been bashed about and resprayed white again to hide the bumps and scratches, the fan was on permanently and the radiator blocked, so £15 second hand radiator soon sorted that out, no problems since, im sure it sounds like a right heap of junk but meh, engine runs like a dream, done 110,000 which is nothing really, ive just got it to get me up and running but i cant see it letting me down, my 7 year old corsa had no end of problems!!! but i guess you get what you pay for really, tho i do enjoy fixing things so ill happy whip out the tool box on the side of the road (tho last time it was masking tape on the a52:lol:) to sort it out, tho most importantly you dont want it letting you down on your way to a job!

so after all that, buy the best you can afford and look after it!

forgot to mention that theres a hell of a lot of room in them old combos, dunno about the new ones but that little ramp/roof hump/wind deflector thing is actually a big shelf and a couple of smaller shelfs below it to store your diary and things, very handy, allways use mine! i fit two internal doors in the back of it the other day from b&q, both went in a treat diagonally (standing on their side) even sleep in the back of it if your 6ft4 like me and lie diagonal
