tile on chipboard !

hi helpers, yes i know i shouldnt tile on chipboard but my en suite is only 1.2 mts x 1.5 mts so the walking space is probably a third of that so will only be standing on about 6 31cmx 31cm ceramic tiles.

I had it tiled about 12 years ago by a "pro" and he just tiled straight on it
so if i remove all the adhesive off and put extra screws in chipboard to make it more solid and use 2 part bal fastflex you think it will be ok or is it too much of a gamble ?

if its to much of a gamble and i take it up and put wbp ply down how would i support the ply all around the edge of the skirting where the ply meets the chipboard

By the time you remove the old adhesive it will probs knack the surface.. I would overboard with Hardi backer 250 then tile it..

hello,just because it has worked once already going direct onto the chipboard doesnt mean you will get the same result,over board it and have peace of mind,since its such a small area as you say it wont cost much to do this

so i dont need to scrape off all the brown stuff then as long as its level and secure ? cheers P M

oh the house is 14 years old, so why do they fit chipboard in bathrooms etc knowing that they will probably be tiled is it down to the cost ?

Hardi 250 is only 6mm..

cos building companies think chipboard is cheap and don't consider what flooring options might be going down once the house is sold. basically, it's not their problem. they just have to make sure the floors meet the correct regulations.

my house is 7 years old and I've tiled both my bathroom and en-suite floors. but first, I've laid a 6mm cement board down over the existing floor by gluing and screwing it down. perfect substrate, minimal height increase and lovely looking floors to boot :yesnod:
