mikethetile

got a phone call today from the lady who reccomended me apologising

ah i said i was going to call you and explain

no need she said hes in our bridge club and we know what hes like

so she gave me an update on the job

the next day he visited two local tile shops and they sent fixers around to price the job

first one said same as me..........walls need re skimming as he had chosen porcelain............and yes the tiles have to come off

second one arrived early this morning and you guessed it

tiles have to come and he reccomends re skimming as the walls need to be good for porcelain

he had enough and lost his temper with the tiler and demanded to know why all these idiot tilers couldnt tile on tile when he had done it and knows it can be done

the tiler kept his cool but whacked the wall breaking a tile and then pulled another couple of tiles off with his bare hands

thats why we idiot tilers wont tile on tile

told him to get someone else and left

so at bridge club today he was beside himself with anger

he couldnt believe the way he had been treated and now he has a hole in his wall

it was his wife who told everyone what had happened as he wouldnt admit it

i would love to know who the second tiler was so i can treat him to a pint:8:

I'd be concerned about skimming too Mike, skimmed walls will only safely bear 20kgm2:thumbsup:

Is this customer Harry Enfield's "Only me?"

Sounds like he knows it all.

i hadnt considered that

i will bear that in mind when asked to stick porcelain

how do you rectify the walls if they are that far out

if you need to dryline that would make a big job out of it as the suite would have to come out

i didnt know he wanted pocelain when i looked at the job as we didnt get that far

the walls were all over the place and theres no way you could dub the tiles out to get a decent finish

i think if you had all the tiles off the walls may not have been far off

originaly the tiles were half way up and then he tried to lose the differnce by dubbing the tiles out above dado height so as you can imagine the walls above waist height were wavey

its not my problem as i lost the job

dot and dab plasterboard to make right the walls:thumbsup:
thanks ill remember that

the tiles will still have to come off

which is his issue

if he wont pay for that he wont pay for dot and dab

but as i dont plaster it would be a cheaper option and i can manage d and d and get the suite back in same day

I would steer clear of him Mike, he sounds like a nutter, will he pay if you do it.

i did wonder if the call i got today was testing the water to see if i would go back

but i cant see him asking me back tbh

i left politely and on good terms with him

but as you say if there was a problem he would be a nightmare

he might reconsider his position now and ask the next tiler to price for hacking off

anyone used bal render? would this not be good for this situation where the walls need sorting as oppose to skim plaster which has weight restricitons

I'd imagine that would be rather expensive (bal prices:yikes🙂 Jamie

good price that cj have u used it

I have Kilts.

Bathroom job. Bath out.....shower in.

And low and behold............no plaster when bath removed.

Dot/Dab plasterboard in.

Skimmed over with the stuff.......very nice and easy to use

Its handy stuff for keeping in the van for the odd knackered patch here and there

I've used it on many jobs and it can be tiled over after a couple of hours, depending on thickness of coarse. Great stuff and always got a bag at hand.
