Tile onto Plasterboard ??

Hello To All,

Can I tile directly onto Fresh plasterboard, should I apply a primer or apply a skim of plaster.

Clean dust free plasterboard is perfect to tile to without priming. What tile are you planning on sticking up?

Profix adhesive.
Ceramic tiles, 400mm x 300mm over a 1.5m2 area.

It would depend for me on what adhesive and therefore the size and type of tile i'm fixing. I would not use tubbed adhesive onto fresh plasterboard. I've found what little moisture there is in tubbed adhesive gets sucked into the paper of the plasterboard whilst drying. You may then find some tiles don't even bond to the wall. Which is why if you go and de-tile a bathroom that's in a house built in the last 30 years you'll find the tiles will fall off the wall leaving most the adhesive stuck to the wall. If you were intending on using tubbed adhesive i'd prime the wall with BAL Primer (or an equivilent).
Personally though i'd use a powdered adhesive. It's loads cheaper, easy to mix and work with, and you can mix it up that little bit thicker when across the top of your window and in the top reveal.
