Discuss Tile over plaster? in the UK Tiling Forum area at TilersForums.com.

I would like to tile the walls around a bathtub. The walls are about 50 years old, plaster on lathe, painted, and for many years have been covered with a fiberglass/plastic tub "surround" loosely glued on. The plaster is sound, without cracks or crumbling.

If I can clean the walls of any residual glue and sand the paint, or even strip it off, can I tile over the plaster?

Thanks,
Paul
