Most of all Emma is not to feel deflated. I am no expert as i am just starting myself but you had a customer who is happy with the job you did. However next time it is something you will double check before you do it, learn by "mistakes" (if it was one). Keep your chin up, the job was good, customer was happy 🙂

Thanks for that 🙂 I did feel a bit unconfident but as you say, the job was good and the customer was happy so all in all not a bad start...... but I may very well consider 3mm next time!!

No need to feel deflated about that, the client left it up to you. I peronally use 1.5 -2mm on walls and about 3-4mm on floors. I'm always picking up tips, from listening to clients, looking at others jobs, what to do, what not to do, what looks crap, possabilties etc. I've found that 99% of the time, if the client is happy, then it looks right, if it looks right, it is right. End of. (well as long as whats under the tile is right as well)

Here is something to help you feel a bit more confident in your work, when you go into the toilets in a pub or to someones bathroom and you see tiling that is absolutley crap, ask yourself... is my work better than this, if the answer is yes then there is hope because at some time someone got paid for that crap you where lookin at, so if people producing that kind of work are making a living then someone who takes their time, thinks about what they're doin and produces a good standard of work will always have work, so don't worry too much about the grout lines on the job you did. As mc says the client was happy.

No need to feel less confident, size of spacers it completely down to personal choice, personally I have never used larger than 3mm on wall but that is not to say that I won't, I once saw a bathroom tiled in black tiles and the tiler had used 5mm spacers and grouted with white grout, the contrast looked fantastic. Don't be disheartened, the customer was happy 🙂

smaller grout lines less grout more wonga!

Me 1-3mm on walls though just about to do a 4m, 1st ever and 5m on floors although trend is for much less nowadays, 2mm or even 1mm.

****!
