When you say "curving" do you mean that when you offer the two mitred ends together the appearance is that the ends of the cut touch but bow apart in the middle?

Yeah that's exactly what happens.

I'm guessing that you are laying the trim flat when you cut instead of standing it up in the mitre block?

I'm standing the trim up ways, is that the right way?

I've had it before with a cheapo mitre block, too much play in the middle of the guide can give the curve, the saw starts straight then strays off , goes adrift in the middle and straightens towards the end, that was my thoughts on it, at any rate, I don't have the problem now with a decent block.

It's a stainless steel block I have but there is a bit of room for the blade to move about in between, that could be the problem although I've tried other blocks and saws

might be stating the obvious, but make sure you cut the mitre exactly as you want it to lay on the wall..ie. push the trim perfectly flat against the back face of the box to form a right angle...failing that you can get handheld mitre cutters for trim a bit like secateurs with the angles marked on..might be easier if you're struggling with a box?
