Welcome aboard. As said. Learning on the job is definitely the best way to learn anything.

Somebody said to me once 'listen to all the tilers that you meet and take everything on board, but make your own mind up as the best way to do it' and you tend to find you learn a lot more as you're working it all out yourself rather than just taking commands... sort of thing.
