Thanks for all the replies guys. I think the chance of getting anything back from the tiler will be zilch. The house is three years old and it is the original plaster. Some skim did come off when the first lot of tiles were taken off, but I think this was because that itself was not bonded too good to the scratch coat. The tiler, as far as I am aware done no surface preparation at all.

I will say this though, if I suggest we have to take the tiles of to my misses (excuse the user name, but it was chosen in honour of our dog who passed away last week!) I think my nuts will be up on the wall instead of tiles!!!

I think I will just do the area where the ties have been taken off and cross my fingers for the rest.

Where will I get the acrylic from? Do Topps do it? as I am looking to put tiles back on over the weekend. I am going to do it myself as my wife admits that I can do a better job than him (I done all the tiling in our last house - kitchen walls, bathroom floor (using 18mm marine ply screwed through floorboard into joists and primed-that floor went nowhere) and vestibule) trouble is I am self employed now and don't get the time, but I supposed I will have to make it. I have a bathroom that we are going to refit soon, as well as an en-suite. I suppose I will do it myself so expect to see me on the forum regularly asking advice as in tanking for a shower etc...

Cheers Guys

Plaster takes 28 days to dry. If folks want it done sooner, walk.

I had a DIY'er who plastered the day before I was to start in winter time and thought the tile adhesive would stick! I've even had builders who have told me to tile over plaster under 28 days, so I walk.

I will not put my name to dodgy work.

I only use acrylic bond sealer as well. PVA only sits on the surface as a 'water' skin, so the tile adhesive, being wet, ra-activates the water-based PVA, and they come off easily. Acrylic bond sealer goes right into the plaster, and seals, as it should.

I went to a so called property developer a few weeks ago, who said I shouldn't bother about my quote part for sealing as he had got hold of PVA and did it, so could I take it off the bill, yes I said, and get another tiler to do it! I'm not putting up 40m2 of porcelain on PVA!!!!

Cheers Gaz - picked some up today from your Widnes branch:icon4: Scoured the walls that are exposed and put a 50/50 mix on tonight. Will put another coat on tomorrow and will tile later on.

As for the 28 days to dry - would this hold true for a skim on plasterboard?? Just need to know for doing the bathroom

Cheers
