Hi, a first for me, been asked to tile a fireplace, have not yet looked at it or gave answer will be goint to look in couple of days, Is there anything i need to consider or know when tiling a fireplace, do i have to use a different type of adhesive or grout and does the tile need to be heat resistant, also if its natural stone tiles im assuming these are heat resistant.

Hi Atec,
I did a granite tile hearth on a narrow boat for a wood burning stove not long back.
Fire proof board to construct the back of the hearth (well not exactly fireproof but takes ages to actually get burning) is a requirement for the boat regs apparently so I contacted the manufacturer to see what would work with that and granite and they said to use SPRSF onto the board and it would be fine. So thats what I did......no problems, except I expect major flex when they lift it out the water for its next hull clean !
I know others near me who have used the SPRSF too to repair damaged fireplaces.
I am sure someone on here will give you the exact materials to use though.
