We’re hoping to add a balcony on the back of a bungalow we’re buying as it’s built on a slope so the back of the property is around 1½ metres above garden level.
What I have in mind is really a raised deck but I want to minimise ongoing maintenance so don’t want to construct it from normal timber decking.
I was thinking about building brick columns as supports and then creating the main structure from pressure treated joists with something like 18mm ply to form the deck.
On this I was considering laying a tiled surface, presumably over a waterproof membrane, but will this be OK. I’ve also no real idea how to finish the edges so rain runs clear of the structure.
Any help or alternative suggestions would be appreciated,
John.
