Hello,
i'm going to be tiling the bathroom walls with tiles that are 30x41.6 cm what size of spacer should i use for best effect also where should i start, the bathroom is 8' long by 7' wide and 7' high, the bath is on the longest wall and there is a window on the short wall, i will also be running a border around which will go into the windows recess and will be level with the sill.
Your guidance would be appreciated.
thanks

In terms of spacer a 2mm is usual, but see how it looks by laying out some tiles on the floor with the spacers to make sure you (and by you I mean your wife!) are happy with the look.
when planning the tiles on walls you always centre on a wall to achieve a 'good cut' - which is between 1/4 and 3/4 of the length of the tiles - at either side and at the top and bottom. However a bathroom has slightly different priorities with the window (a focal point) taking priority over everything else, but again you plan your tiles from the middle of the window at the bottom and sides.
It's easier to show than to write down here (as I've just discovered!), but it is all about getting the look and finish right and the planning at this stage will pay dividends at the end!
Or PM me and I can give you a quote!

Why should i get a pro in, i've always done my own be it fitting windows to laying floors, plumbing to electrics and the jobs have all been to a decent standard, i'm gathering info before i start so i can get it right in my head first time, sure there would have been more questions as i go along thats how people learn.

will try and answer your question, when it comes to tiling, a 'decent' standard is simply not good enough. I take your point on plumbing / electrics but most of this work is hidden and cost of materials is low in comparison to tiling, tiles and adhesive are expensive. I'd say there is an argument for one taking on his own tiling project if the tiles are very cheap. But then again... One mans 'decent' is another mans exceptional or crap so if you are happy with the finish and enthusiastic about embarking on a tiling installation then all the best to you
