Hello tilers 🙂

Have my 2nd job coming up in a couple of weeks, I'm going in after the plumber has been in to change the suite. The toilet is a close coupled cistern job.
Should I ask the plumber to not plumb the cistern until I can tile behind it? What's the best/ normal plan here? I'm thinking if I tile around it, it would look c*ap!

If the plumber is a good chap then he might..but if not just get him to pack it off the wall so he can plumb in the pan then remove cistern yourself and replace after tiling...........dave..

There should be enought movement in the pipes for you to move the cistern forward enough to slide a tile in behind it. It will look a lot better than cuttting around it

If at all possible remove toilet this makes it much easier also if the stench pipe is going directly owt of the wall with the toilet removed you can produce a more accurate cut around the pipe better still see if the plumber can fit toilet when you have finished.

If you tile around cistern personnally i think it will look s*it.

as dave says...get him to pack out, a plumber i work with uses 12mm plasterboard and leaves the cystern loose, all you need do is tile and tighten..

although it'd be better if you tiled and he then fitted..Mark.

Thanks folks, I will see if he can leave it off, or if not as you suggest pack it out 12 mm. Nice one, thanks very much

Whip the pan out and tile behind it - takes a lot less time than tiling around it and makes the job look neater.

Its not as difficult as you think to take out 😉

Im just doing a full bathroom where theres been a new suite fitted, plumber fixed the toilet to the wall using 15m pipe spacers, so I could unscrew the toilet from the wall, drain the cystern and pull it forward to slide the tiles behind, having cut holes in the tiles for the toilet screws to go through.

Not exactly the best way, but still better than having to cut around the toilet.
