Tiling help please...

Hello there.

First post so go easy on me!

Just nearing completion on construction of ground floor bathroom and en-suite, both will have wet room showers and I am starting from bare breeze blocks and screed floor so now is the point to get any prep done before tiling. My plan is to tank the wet room parts and use tile backer boards on any stud work (unless anyone tells me otherwise).

Rooms are going to be tiled with Travertine (I know original) and was wondering the best way to provide a substrate for these. Can I tile direct onto blocks? Screed will have wet UFH in it so is there any special prep needed there???

Any advice on tiling direct to lightweight blocks or any special requirements for the wet UFH aspect of it?

It isn't advisable to tile direct to thermalites.. and you say wet ufh in screed... what screed is it.?

I take it you mean fired up? if so then no. Just finishing off other jobs and we have bare shells at the mo waiting for wall finishes, insulation on floor then UFH and screed.

Then it does need commissioning then.. the screed will shrink/curl and needs to do this initial expansion/contraction before you can tile.. as for tanking it.. personally i would use Dural Ci and Dural tanking joint tape.. both availlabe from PHG Wetrooms.. next day delivery... OK thanks for the info, in regards to the bare block walls would you batten then tile backer or dot n dab?

I would Dot and Dab them and then mechanical fix once set.
