With the weight issues of 12mm Travertine - I'd suggest that D&D plasterboard is not the best substrate preparation you could choose!
I'd have prepared the brick wall as my first choice or gone down the route of mechanical fixing of a waterproof tile backer board.
All that weight on Dot & Dab :yikes:
