I'm of the "don't do it" mindset. However, I spoke to Ardex about a recent job and they advised that I tank with WPC first and all should be okay.

On another occasion, I needed to tile onto water resistant MDF and Mapei said they would guartantee the adhesive as long as I used "Primer G" and, I think, "Keraflex" adhesive.

If overboarding is not an option I would phone the technical helplines of the adhesive manufacturers to see what they are prepared to stand by.

Sorry this is a 3 year old thread but the situation has arisen again.

I have been asked to tile to MDF, its in a dry area of a kitchen.

While I hate doing it the client needs it done. At the moment I am not sure if I could overboard with a backboard due to edges that would be seen.
On calling Mapei Tech, they say No but reading here...Dock says it "can" be done.
Further searches have said BAL Mosaic fix or even White Star.
Other ideas are to tank the are 1st.

Open to all suggestions ?

I did tile on an mdf bo Lisa Morris 006.jpg ard, nearly an inch thick a while back, had no choice because the decorator was an all trade guy who new everything and was fixed when I was'nt there to complain and it could'nt be over boarded either..no space and used a single flexible.

It's the wall to right of the picture but was well scratched up and tanked before tiling onto it.

White Star is a brilliant tubbed adhesive and sticks like nothing on earth when I have used it

Sorry Grumps. its still a tubbed adhesive and has no place in any tiling situation.
I only use powder now but as a personal preference. Your statement is a very misleading especially to the newer person to the trade.

Tubbed adhesives still sell in thousands of tubs a month and many, many professional tilers use it regularly and in the right situation with the right tiles there is nothing wrong with it. If there was, Mapei Ardex BAL and the rest wouldn't produce them and offer a guarantee!
