Is it possible to stick 60 x 33 cm tiles onto plasterboard. If not what is the answer? The tiles will be sited in a bathroom/shower.

Thanks!

Weigh the tiles. Then calculate how much they weigh per sqm, and then add the rough weight of the adhesive and grout per sqm, and add everything together. If the result is 32kg/m2 or less, then you're in the clear. If it's more, you need to reinforce the walls.

Don't forget waterproofing. If there is water ingression and the plasterboard is affected, such large and heavy tiles delaminate more easily than smaller tiles.

Edit: corrected weight number

Thanks for that, I think we're right on the border line for the weight. Should we use 12.5mm exterior plywood or do we need aqua panel as we need to box in some pipes.

Your help is much appreciated! :hurray:

If it is bare plasterboard sWe isn't it 32kg/m? I thought 20kg was for skimmed plasterboard?

According to my notes Fekin mate, plastered walls on to brick or block is 40kg/m2 only 20kg if it is a skim on plasterboard.

Sorry, I was meaning plaster skim.

I never think about weights on plastered brick with it being in the 40's... never had anything remotley heavy enough to warrent thinking about the weight onto plastered brick.
