tiling on tile????????

hi,

can someone give me some advice please!

i went to look at a job the other day, and i plan to tile on tile, the tiles seem well fixed and on a good substrate.

i plan to clean the old tiles with acid and skim over the top of them with flexible adhesive.

and then tile using normal adhesive.

should i tile using flexible adhesive??

Is there a shorter way to do this? Should i use a certain type of acid?

also the woman went and bought 30cm x 60cm tiles, is this still ok?

any other advice will be very welcomed!

i have to drink horlicks to sleep at night.

The best advice you will get is to remove all the tiles, I have 4 loo refurbs going on right now and the main contractor was adamant that I tiled over the so called "well fixed" existing tiles, I refused and removed about 6, then they all just fell off in front off us with a few little taps.




Always best to prep right.

I would say remove the tiles too, I wouldn't want to risk tiling on tile.

You need to take into account your weight ratios if you do go ahead

remove first , i was going to tile over my kitchen tiles , with help from here i was persuaded not to , i am glad i didnt , the old tiles were very poorly fixed to the wall :yikes:

someone asked me to tile over a kitchen floor as some tiles were cracked, i refused and when i took then up someone had already tiled over tiles on top of floor boards, think that was why they were cracking . you never know what lies beneath :yikes:
