tiling on top of a damp proof membrane

hi,

we are tiling our bathroom and have applied two coats of 'sika prufe' liquid damp proof membrane on to ply.

the tile used are limestone and after the sealant was applied the tiles have started slipping down the wall and falling off. I now realise this was the wrong product to apply to the ply board.

does anyone know of a primer / sealer that can be applied on top of this membrane that will stop the adhesive reacting with the sika prufe?

personally I don't like to tile onto plywood (walls), I'd recommend replacing the plywood with 12mm hardiebacker board.

What adhesive did you use?

The plywood is not strong enough to hold the weight of the tiles anyway and even less so with a bitumen coating on it...

The baton would not help with the coating they used merle.

Because the product he has used is for tanking brick/blockwork. It is a bitumen based product that will always be slightly wet, ie if you push it with a finger it will move like rubber.
If an ardex/granfix type liquid tanking had been used he would get much better adhesion.

I didn't check out his Sika product, just thought it was something like Mapegum...

I wouldn't want to be tiling on that David mate, especially not with something as heavy as limestone....

With the bitumen I would be concerned of it burning thru the limestone

If the xtra thickness doesn't cause too many problems with taps, etc., I think that would be my route going forward Ed
