Hi all, I'm looking for some advise on tiling on wall panels. 2m2 kitchen splash.

The wall panels are very thin 2-3mm and looks like laminate? the customer said its been there for about 15yrs and its been painted over.

Removing the board is out of the question as she has just had a new kitchen fitted around it.

The tiles are 100mm x 100mm ceramic. I was thinking about sanding with high grit to key then using a flexi rapid set addy so I can grout the same day.

Any advice?

Cheers
Graham

Cheers Whitebeam
That is what I told the customer but she practically begged me to tile it as it is??
I also said I couldn't offer her any kind of insurance on the job and she excepted that.

So its kind of rock and hard place, just wondering if I could use gripfill or something? I know it's not professional but she wants it done regardless.

I agree with whitebeam, and no amount of her begging just to get on with it are gonna make the tiles stay on any longer:thumbsdown:

lol

The thing is, in the current climate I can't afford to say no so:mad2: I'm trying to find a way around it. I'll give her a ring tomorrow and offer to cut out the panel between the worktop and (it's only 2m2) wall units then D'n'D the walls with plasterboard and seal before tiling.

Just need to make sure I'm not opening a can of worms.

Use 6mm hardi.....leave it shy of the tile height( exposed area's)....then when you tile use a thicker trim and it will sit back to hide hardi backer and tile edge......thats the best option a part from ripping
out..

Cheers Dave, thats the way I'll do it, the customer dont like trims?!? so i'll do as you said but fill the void between top of backer and the tile with grout

Dam I love this place!!
