Tiling onto New Asphalt

Hi Everyone, Due to start a 17 sqm floor tommorow, But just been informed by the builder (at 9.30 pm ) the floor will be asphalted in the morning . What should i be saying to the builder as to how long before is SHOULD be before it can be tiled ?

his labourer took up the old tiles with a large sds and ruined the asphalt, customer gone mental so he had to get it re-done hense the last
minute change of plan...

If it is smooth then it is a no go as it is.. when interior use.. then you can slurry coat it for a bond.. but IMO uncouple it with a membrane..

its on kitchen floor , its basically a lump of black tar , used as damp proofing normally 1 or 2 or more inches thick, i have tiled on it many many times but when its been down for some time ( months to decades old) using acrlic primer + 1 part flexi . i just want to know if there is a standard or reccomended cooling / cureing time before tiling ? thanks Gary

Just when it is cold... but really you should not tile direct to smooth Asphalt..

I agree Dave, or you can use a 2 part latex screed and skim 3mm over the top to screen it off from the adhesive

were the old tiles layd in sand and cementon top of the asphaltif so screed then un -couple and tile

it will be shiney smooth so i will need to key the surface, anyway i'll only see the job in the morning, ta Gary
