Hi, I am about to board out a wall in 18mm ply ready for tiling. Only using the Ply because it is left over from another job and would really help to free up some space in the garage.

Been trying to have a read on how best to seal it but cant find any difinate answers. I have read about BAL WP1, that says it is ok for ply, but as part of a tanking system. Whats the other part?

Any help, advice or other ideas would be greatly appreciated.

^^^^^ as above, imo ply isn't a suitable tiling substrate, regardless of what manufacturers claim.

I have never really understood why people use wood for walls anyway. Surely a greater fire risk, expensive and problematic to moisture but thats my opinion.

Ply is a "live" material.....so it bends and moves...as well as shrinking and swelling......

Plasterboard, Cement boards, Tile backer boards are all "dead" material.....and therefore when fixed correctly dont move or swell etc at all......and if you are going to cover it in WP1......plasterboard is £5 per sheet!

all the best

i think all agree, forget the ply, make some shelving for the garage with it instead, ply will warp
