Tiling onto Tiles

Customer has asked me to tile onto existing tiles. Behind existing tiles is hardie backer so weight is not a problem. Whats the best tool to use to score the existing tiles?

I never tile on tile nowadays, but I have heard that Mapei Eco prim grip is great for applying to surface of old tiles before tiling

Ive used Mapei Eco Prim Grip a few times its great stuff, pre-mixed and dries quickly. make sure you give the mix a good stir before using as the 'grit' settles to the bottom.

Never have and never will. Hardie or not I cant see how you can guarantee your work laid over someone elses.

They come off or they get someone else. Not to say that it can't be eone though. I just choose not to.

No special tools needed just use Ardex x7 & ADDITIVE E-90 one container to one bag very simple and sticks like ship to a blanket lol.

Oh if you want to score the tiles just use a small angle-grinder with a diamond blade, and carefully criss-cross all over NOT TO DEEP !!!

Sometimes you do have to tile on tiles... i have a toilet block coming up and the old tiles are on with sand and cement , we all know what they will be like to get off .. so the pub owner insists i tile over..

me being just a mere mortal tiler i will use eco-prim grip

If this was a domestic bathroom with tiles onto PB or similar then as above NO , i want them off... it is a case of take each job at it's own merit..

we tile on tile here , just as long as the original tiles are well stuck prime and away you go ;and their is a 10 year guarantee ;never had a problem

Eco Prim Grip is a good job, or else score a key into the tiles and use a non flexible adhesive mixed with additive.

Score with an angle grinder using just the flat edge, and prime with Eco grip!

Sand paper the glass surface then use Kerabond T with Isolastic
