Tiling onto underfloor heating screed - wet !

I have a job tiling onto screed laid on underfloor heating. This was installed a number of months ago, and the heating unit has not been run since (house is a new build which has been sitting empty through the winter). The moisture level in the screed seems too high to tile successfully onto, and having looked into it a little bit, I think I need to advise that they have the heating fully connected, and run for a while to dry out the screed before I start tiling. What does anyone else think ?

I would have thought the screed had dried sufficiently over a few months. What makes you think it is still wet?

I placed a tile onto the floor, went away for about 10 minutes, and when I came back and lifted it the area underneath the tile was sodden

They hav'nt got a leak somewhere in the system or a break in the damp membrane under the floor wev'e had a lot of rain this year

The system has never been run. I am a bit bemused as to the level of dampness, although the house itself is pretty damp, since there is no heating in the building and it has just sat empty over a pretty cold winter

I would advise it is connected and tested before-hand...That substrate needs heating to allow it to curl and cool down.....Then you could maybe use Ditra to cope with the expansion for the tiling....just a thought....

Thanks Dave - my gut feel was to get it run, tested and the screed settled - but wanted to make sure it wasn't my inexperience talking (not sure the client is going to be happy at my suggestion !!)
