Hi all

Need a bit of advice on this one please, Start a job on Monday that requires me to tile over the existing tiles in a bathroom.

Never had to do this before, the tiles already up are fixed on solid, so what is the best way to prep them before applying new tiles over the top.

I hav heard you can mix pva and sand and paint this over the tiles

Help please.....

Don't use PVA, just wash the tiles down with sugar soap, this removes grease etc from the surface. Then being a bathroom, a good D2 type adhesive is recommended.....Gaz

Personally i would always try to get the customer to have the old tiles removed as your never 100% sure how well the old tiles are fixed also with two sets of tiles on the wall it will be double the weight.....

I agree completely.

I'd use epoxy primer when tiling on old tiles btw. I'd clean the surfaces using sugar soap and a polishing machine with a rough scotch brite pad first though.

If your going to use a good strong adhesive Like Bal white star as Gaz suggested you might not need to use a battern, all depending on size and weight of tile really, just keep checking with sprit level.

Very handy for supporting battens or straight edges used at the bottom of wall tiling.

Normally nails would be used to secure the batten to the wall. Quite often you will be unable to find any thing solid to nail to. sometimes the opposite, you find the wall too hard

Use these stands to get the batten supported at just the perfect height in seconds

You could try these, but i've never used them and don't really know how good they are?
