Tiling to multiboard!!!

Evening lads, i went to check a job today, a large but standard kitchen to be tiled, the problem is, although the kitchen is only two years old it is finished with multiboard or a splashback, (depends on what you call it, it,s the board that a lot of people now use in showers instead of tiles, as i said i call it multiboard) the customer now wants me to tile it but the multiboard was put on before the units were fixed to the wall making removal of the board almost impossible. Will i have any problems tiling directly onto the board???? in my opinion it will be ok to do so, what do you think/advise??? Thanks in advance for any replies!!!!!

easy this one.. NO!.. you cannot tile to that surface.

Yes it is a gloss finish!!!

You'll either have to remove it by cutting it out or, overboard it first. Not something I would even consider tiling to.

So basically the multiboard needs to be removed if she wants it tiled???

yes it will need removing. cut it with a multitool, it's probably only 6mm

The board must be removed and as Mike says this can be done using a multi-tool, Fein or Bosch will do the job. Just be careful not to cut through the substrate the multiboard is fixed to as there will be cables/pipes behind it.

I ripped a load of this out of a bathroom and en-suite last year, it was 10mm thick and was seriously glued on to the plasterboard, the whole lot needed re-boarding. Fortunately I'd pre warned the customer about potential problems so covering the extra cost was no problem.
