To Board Or Not To Board?!

Hi people!! Just been to look at another little job (I'm quite new to this!) only a cloakroom, walls up to halfway. Under their washbasin they have boxed in the waste pipe using what looks like green caberdeck floor boarding. It's only 350mm high X 150mm deep and 1300 long. Would you guys backer board this, use another product or just tile it? Thanks very much for your info!!

Overboard first, plasterboard or backer board will both be suitable for the job.
