Topps Trade Prices

Just talking to my local Topps Manager and he has given me a new Trade price list for their addy etc. Apparently since the introduction of the Topps Approved Fitter scheme, several traders have been a little peeved off about the lack of recommends. Therefore in order to win back some of the trade tilers they have reduced the price on all their sundry items. They aim to be the cheapest trade supplier of BAL products and of their other 'own' brands. With my account I get between 45 and 50% of retail. Worth going and asking.

Their,ve recently open a store in hemel and did,nt even advertise the fact, Only use them when I have too. Independents are more open with their discounts

Me too!

Thinking long and hard about all this TAF tonight (I'm one and it's going alright).

What's in it for me? I get quality referalls = so far so good, I'm happy.

What's in it for Topps? They get maximum profit on EVERYTHING and a safe installation, as well as an unpaid visiting salesman to clinch the deal (me).

What's in it for the customer? A 12 month guarantee.

That 12 month guarantee is blinkin' expensive if you ask me!
I just worked out for a customer that she will be charged over £1500 for materials - my fixing costs will be less than that! Makes you think doesn't it? I wonder how much domestic business they are actually losing due to this scheme?

Probably 1 in 3 customers who I see on behalf of Topps ask me if I can get discount for them on their materials. Talk about rock and a hard place!

I am a TAF down here in sleepy Somerset, I find that sometimes customers are looking at other suppliers for the tiles and that I will still get the job. My veiw is that you have already formed a relationship with the customer and talked the work through with them and if they ask I will give two quotes....one for labour only and one for the whole job inc materials.

There are only 2 tile shops here so I use Topps for materials as I get a very good price and the other independant only supplies Granfix of which I am not a great lover.

On the whole the TAF scheme works well for me but I don't rely on it 100%.

I have just created an account with TOPPS, worked out much cheaper than my other supplier. Also found out that there own brand wall adhesive is made by Palace, the supergrip stuff. I was using this as the Palace brand and was paying nearly twice as much!
But when I compared there trade prices against it to BAL, the BAL was the same price, but with a lifetime guarantee!

Well chuffed to have a huge store near me, better discount too, about 45% on nearly everything!

I agree totally with that fella, I am getting great referrals from Topps on the TAF scheme and sometimes get asked about going through my trade account, sometimes Topps accomodate this as the customer is on a tight budget so at least they get the tile sale.

Also read a Topps email regarding getting all the old tilers cards back on the counter, none of the staff like this idea in my branch at all as it defeats the object and to be honest they haven't lost that much trade from them at all.

I think the system attracts a certain type of customer, you know, the type you don't wipe your feet on the way out of the house kind, unlike the house I'm at this week....
