One Day

Just a thought - don't take this wrong, but every customer I've worked for who has been an engineer of some sort has been pretty painful to deal with.
I think engineers get caught up in the technical and fiddly aspects rather than the craft and final result.
I remember one guy who was completely fixated on the direction of lighting and shadows and how he should have had a window moved, rather than being happy with a beautiful and rather expensive bathroom.

I'd argue that engineering is less of a craft and a lot more of a science than tile and stone fixing.

yea I do agree with you there but all engineers are not like that trust me lol its all depends on what type of engineering background they do, for me I am a crane engineer so anything from electrical or mechanical. but if I don't try it I will never know if its right for me.

you did a few week course and that was all?

7 Years ago I did a 4 week full time tiling course, because I was made redundant and had to re-train to pay the mortgage etc. A month or so later I did the basic Bisazza course and found I had a knack for mosaics. A year or so later I did their advanced course in Italy. I have also since learnt how to lay Victorian geometric tiles. Ive done pretty good even if I say so myself, especially with mosaics. :)

I don't think you did a course in Warrington did you Sharon? I will stick to my post, a 4 week course will never make a tiler, never in this world of God. I would love to see some of these course people on a real tiling job. Not just bathroom bashing or a bit of bespoke work, but all round tiling, power vibro floors, twin tiles, floated coat, acid resistant, real geometrics, restoration, swimming pools. I could go on forever, but I won;t. Suffice to say there are "tilers, and there are tilers"

So are you saying Im not a tiler? So what am I? (clean answers only please lol).
I did a 4 week course at STC in Harlow 7 years ago. Alot of what you mention is specialist stuff and it isnt for anyone. Ive specialised in mosaics and not had any complaints :)

Sharon I would not dream of questioning your abilities in what you do, My point is a real time served tiler would be comfotable carrying out the type of work I mentioned, it is not specialist work at all, it is all part of being a tiler. No offence intended to anyone.
