Hi all iv got a travertine mosaic splash back next week (first trav mosaic) and have a couple of questions!
1. do i seal them before grouting and after?
2. do i use the usual mosaic notch trowel?
3.would you work up from the work tops (not perfectly level!)
4. would you still silicon the corners as per usual ? (iv seen a lot of corners grouted with travertine)

comments appreciated!

1. Don't require sealing before grouting, only after.
2. How thick are they? If they are 10mm thick then use a 6mm wall trowel.
3. Find the highest point from the worksurface, then set a laser line from there. Trowel up, then stick the sheets to the wall using that laser line as the guide.
4. Don't grout in the corners where tile meets kitchen cupboard, only Silicon. If walls are block walls you can grout the corners and not Silicon, but if they are stud, then only silcione and not grout.

So what will you be doing with the gap around the work surface ?

Why not start from lowest point leaving a 2mm Silicon gap and cut the others in ?

Seriously? Well, let's see. They are travertine, so need to be wet cut. They also need to be dry before fixing to the wall (ask any adhesive manufacturer). They are mosaic, so there are lots of them and they are small and fiddly. Are you going to cut them in situ on their sheet, or take each one off, in order to cut the couple of mm from them?

I don't think so mate. If it's a newly fitted kitchen then the worktops can't be more than 3mm out of level, and if they are, adjust them!
