travertine floor help pls

This is what we originally thought but you can't see straight through to the floor but all have adhesive through the hole or it's just crumbling the top surface of the tile away.

How thick was the ply he fitted to your floor, and how did he fix it, nails or screws?
Some adhesive manufactures recommend sealing the back of the ply and sides prior to fixing. Sealing the top is recommended by some and not by others.
I would say he has not back skimmed your travertine.

It sounds as though they haven't been back skimmed and filled from what you are saying here. If they had been this would not happen as the trav would have no where to go if solid bed fixing.

I have to say I do not agree that back skimming would have stopped the tiles from forming holes.
back skimming is necessary to achieve 100% coverage but it is not going to make as Dave has said a commercial grade tile suitable for floors

Its sounds like a really soft grade thats disintegrating, as Dave said not suitable for floors.
