hi guys, advice on a floor would be appreciated, said floor is upstairs bathroom it has floorboards down ( not t&g ) that do seem very secure. 600x400x10mm travertine going down. i know best thing to do would be to replace the existing floor with wbp but i havent really got the time ! best way to go about this task without all that replacing the floor malarkey?

many thanks chaps.

Cut corners now and pay for it later imo, what you'll need to do is overboard with wbp and or hardie-backer or other backer / cement board.

yeah was thinking of going down the marmox board route! you think 6mm would be enough fixed down with flexi addy and screwed down then a flexi addy to fix tiles with?

Hard for me to say without knowing the floor deflection, if any. How big an area is it ? You may get away with it, or may not, I'm not calling it 😳

ha ha dont blame you Alan !! the total area is only 4sqm and that includes where the bath is going which is'nt being tiled, like i say the floor does seem very secure and i know the guy that done the ripping out of original suite and he has screwed down floor boards very well. See what other reponses i get before i commit !!

rip up the floor and replace with 18mm wbp

screwing the floor down wont take the flex out of the joists, noggin the joists to take the deflection out before fixing the ply

If the floor is solid then i would use hardibacker and not a marmox type board...

Not every floor requires a full rip out..and replace with ply.. i hate ply anyway..LOL..

not used as often nowadays you could mesh it fasten down with large head clout nails .i know travis perkin stock the mesh .we used to use that method alot at one time

with you all the way there Dave, i hate ply too !! gonna use that no more ply backerboard as a local tileshop stocks it but dont stock hardie.it has good reviews never used it myself so i will let you know how it goes.
