Travertine/plasterboard/fixings advice

Hi fellas.

I have a modern house with walls that are made of really nasty eggbox-type material - a kind of plasterboard/cardboard sandwich maybe 3" thick total.

I have had all kinds of problems over the years just fitting curtain rails, speaker brackets etc. and have to use a variety of different plasterboard fixings to suit the various locations/applications.

Normally, I can forget rawlplugs, as they just push through or rotate upon tightening. Most of the expanding types of fixings require too much depth, and the (rather excellent) metal selfdrill fixings can only accept the supplied machine screws.

I've just had my bathroom tilled in 12mm travertine and now need to fix the shower door, towel rail, bathroom cabinet etc.

What fixings would you recommend?

My installers suggest standard rawlplugs, but I fear that they will crack the tiles if inserted flush, or will simply fail to grip the plasterboard if pushed through (as I've seen recommended elsewhere on the forums).

The shower area has been finished in wediboard. I think that should take a pushed-through rawlplug OK?

i know it's been done now but you would have been better putting in extra timbers where the cabinets, shower door' radiator etc are going to be located....you may get away with standard plugs but I personally would use the rawl plugs that pull back on themselves.
