Yes there are different grades and they will all tell you that theirs is the best grade!
What they have on display will usually be years old and have no bearing on what they are selling at the moment.
At the price you have quoted I doubt if it will be very good, but I can get CTD trade travertine cheaper and if you are fortunate it is passable as natural stone.
If you are after a decent travertine at a fair price PHG up in the North east have some and they deliver nationwide I believe.
Whoever you choose select your stone from actual stock in warehouse ( which will mean a visit) as in my opinion it's the only way to get stone to your satisfaction.
It would be difficult to try and explain what you should be looking for, but weight, surface finish, filling and variety are just some of the aesthetic qualities required.

Most of the travertine in the UK today arrives here from Turkey and it's quality is highly variable as is much of the quality of the filler that makes up the surface.

That doesn't mean it's all rubbish, you just need to find a decent supplier.

The real deal comes from Tivoli in Italy and you won't pick up anything from that region for less than £60m2. It has properties far more like marble than the friable material that is sold today by the big retailers.

This is a competitive priced travertine from CTD.

my take on Trav

Before purchasing your travertine tile, it is important to become familiar with industry terms in order to choose the type and grade of tile most appropriate for your purposes. There are three grades of travertine: premium, standard, and commercial. Premium grade, which is sometimes called first grade, is a tile that has been perfectly cut and has a uniform thickness throughout with very little filler. Standard grade, also called second grade, will also be perfectly cut with a uniform thickness, however, there will be a bit more filler in the stone. Commercial grade, also known as third grade, may not be perfectly cut on all sides and it will not have a uniform thickness. Additionally, there will be a great deal more filler within the stone.

It must be difficult for you trying to sell a product that people are comparing on price only without knowing the quality you have.
As a fixer you have to be aware when you arrive at a job to confirm this type of product is an acceptable blend with the customer.
A few years ago I had some decent travertine to 'fix only' in a new build. The snow was outside, the tiles were wet and despite the supplier being adamant they were from the same batch (which I disputed) the bathroom was tiled. A week later the customer was expecting me to take off the tiles he didn't like! I asked him how much he was going to pay me and that's when I picked up my tools and offered the outstanding balance he owed me to get someone else.
After all the customer is always right.
Note : the specialist stone supplier went bust within 6 months.

Pretty much the same for everything John. My main line of business is fitting bathrooms and the amount of time I have to listen to people talk about internet prices. Quite simply I cannot compete with these prices as a rule and this is mainly because they are not comparing like with like.

Victoria Plumb or example, fitted a bathroom sourced from them recently. What a joke! The bath did little more than defuse the light when I stood it up by the window, the shower tray was not compatible with the enclosure. The shower valve was poor quality as were the bath and basin taps, I could go on!

The customer was more than a little bemused when I told her I could have supplied better quality stuff, (that fitted properly!), for the same outlay.
