Tubbed Adhesive or Bagged Adhesive ????????

Just Wanted to know everybody's thoughts on Tubbed adhesives & Bagged Adhesives and whats better where and for what job also preferences about makes aswell ??????

hi drastik,i used tubbed gear for 1 job last year ona small splashback with pan flat walls and small tiles......about all its good for and the only flat wall i came across all year!!

Only time i've ever used tubbed adhesive is on a kitchen splashback. Much prefer bagged and it's cheaper! Adhesives and grouts i'm BAL all the way.

Haven't used tubbed for about 3 years. I always use flexible powdered, even for kitchen splash backs. Mostly use Mapei proflex nowadays, great price from Tile Giant and has a great pot life for a rapid set.

See im a bal or ardex fan but most people on here say mapei is good ....also i dont mined using tubbed adhesives (Shock Horror) providing walls are flat

Powdered gear but have used tubbed gear on minor splashbacks, not anymore though.

because tubbed dries by dispersion (drying out) and it will take ages (if ever) to dry out on larger tiles. most makes state 300 x 300 max

Yeah, drying, shrinkage. Would use on 6x6 though, and I believe you can use on 300x300 but for that size of tile i would use a 8 or 10mm notch so would not use tubbed, will never dry.

Use tubbed about once every two months on a kitchen splashback, mainly to get a nice new bucket. It's hateful for anything other than 4x4 on kitchens. Have about 6 tubs of half full dispersion in the garage which I've kept solely with the view to emptying out when I need a new bucket for white grout. :lol:

I stumbled across some customer reviews for a tubbed FLOOR tile adhesive a while back, might have been Evo Stik, or Bostik, something like that.

Anyway, was the funniest set of comments I had ever read! 99.9% of customers who used it said that even after THREE WEEKS it still hadn't dried and the tiles still moved, and they had to take them up and buy powdered adhesive and do it again.

The one comment that said it was a great product and worked really well was either someone who had just that second finished tiling and then wrote the review without waiting to see if it actually set, or was a desperate sales rep for Evo-Stik on the verge of losing his job :lol:

I use Bal white Star on my site work. Moisture resistant plasterboard, and tiles are 300x200 ceramics. So within the max of 300x300.
Never had a problem with getting called back to any job on site. (unless plumbers do their usual and don't bring through pipes at the correct height, or over tighten the w.c's)
Tiles also dry no problem and I'd say after maybe 3 hours these tiles won't be moving as they are already taking a set..
Apart from that, I use powdered adhesive for everything else.

I used Bal tubbed on a bathroom 2 years back with 320 x 220mm ceramic tiles, 4 days later when removing the spacers for grouting i pulled a tile off the wall above the bath and cracked a brand new acrylic bath. It hadnt set at all.

I now use Bal CTF4 on all walls no matter what they are. Great stuff and lasts hours in the pot.
