use adhesive instead of grout

Dispersion adhesive will not be fine used as a grout it will let water pass through it and offer no resistance. the water will then pass in to the sub-straight and start to damage it. if you leave it uncorrected in 6 months time you will have big problems so remove the adhesive and use grout.

WHAT realy why do we bothe????? Desperion adhesive as grout and you will be fine come on

I never ever use them Deano, but some companies are making that horrible all in one rubbish that acts as both!!!

You are quite right though.....why do we bother when there is stuff like that on the market. As I said I would remove it.

Yes you are all right (and I agree) that grout is grout and adhesive is adhesive, but the OP is clearly DIY and has more than likely used the all in one dispersion tubbed gear which is why it could be ok as they are designed to be (didn't clarify that in my comment....sorry!)

Totally right. Lost count how many times I have stated this to people over the years but tile sheds keep pushing it and even see new builds full of the stuff.

A total waste of time as you say but if a DIYer has made the decision to tile themselves then sadly there is every likelihood that tubbed gear will be involved somewhere.

i was referring to your post with the why do we bother as in with advice like that why do we bother??

op states they used an adhesive as a grout......if they had used the fix 'n' grout rubbish then I assume they wouldn't be on here asking questions....but who knows ...lol

Because the forum is here to offer help and advice to DIYers and pros alike.
We all know it is the wrong grout but if it is indeed an all in one then the OP will be fine to use it as a grout (which is answering his original question). If it is just a straight tubbed adhesive then yes removal is a must.
I'm not saying it will last or not be subject to water ingress, but as a DIYer he has made a decision to tile himself and is looking for advice.

True! Hahahaha!

Going back to if it was tubbed adhesive used as grout......I know a tile shed using it for both on their displays and it actually passes for grout! Not right I know, just stating what I have seen. Scary, but hey....they use Silicon and glue guns as well to fix whole displays so what do you expect!!!

What adhesive have you used? Was it a ready mixed (tubbed) or, a powdered (bag) one?

I use "Non Slip Wall Tile Adhesive 2.5L" from Wickes

Non-slip, mould resistant tile adhesive with high initial grab for ease of installation

  • Instant grab formula
  • Ready-to-use
  • Mould resistant formulation
  • Tile directly on to existing tiles
  • Showerproof
  • Suitable for kitchens and bathrooms
  • The adhesive sets and dries in 24 hours (approx) in normal conditions
  • Approx coverage is 1.2m² per litre

Do I need to remove it and replace with grout?

Thank you

Now we know it is definitely a tubbed adhesive (not fix & grout) you have used as grout, yes you will have to rake it out. Use a grout rake to get it out. Shouldn't take you long at all.
