wall adhesive serations vertical or horizontal?!?!?

a tiler in germany once told me off for spreading my adhesive from left to right, he told me they should always go verticaly, when i questioned him he said it was because if a water gets behind the wall it can then run down it rather then just sitting there and blowing tiles, i replied "well if you have done your job properly then the water should never be there!!" DOES ANYONE THINK IT ACTUALLY MATTERS!!!!!

Yep. That's what I do too. It's also nice to see the vertical adhesive lines through the grout gaps between the tiles. It looks neat (before they get covered in grout!). I was told the water story too.

horizontal lines will help a tile from slipping, i think if there is water there its a massive problem so therefore it would not matter either way!

Exactly..


Continuous ribs is for suction and allow the air to escape as you depress the tile into situ..).. thus creating a strong bond and full adhesive bed.

the water running down the back of the tile theory wouldn't work as it would only get to the next joint down and stop on the grout behind the tile
