I think with Artex you may be better to remove it, I understand that an electric wallpaper stripper makes it a lot easier.

Tough one to start with. You didn't say how much to tile. If its not too big Marmox construction board comes in 6mm Thickness. better than plasterboard but a bit more expensive

is those boards called HARDI BACKER BOARDS? (can be found @ topps tiles for about £10)?
if so i can agree they are better & they come in M2 boards!

Artex is dodgy stuff...it can come away if it gets wet, you may be better scrapping it off, as said previously..a wall paper steamer, even just soak it with water and leave it for a while. Be careful and use a good dust mask as Artex pre 85 contained asbestos....Mark

theres a lot 15sq m of the stuff i hink the backerboards is the best shout but she just wants it over the artex

Just scrape the thick off..prime, then skim flat with rapid set..allow to dry then tile......dave...

If you are tiling with tub gear ..yes prime..if you are using cementious gear then it will be ok.....dave...

Artex...hate the stuff, can't tell you how many ceilings I have reskimmed over the Sh*%e..
