Warm up UFH

Anyone had much experience with this UFH system? I have been called in to sort out a big bathroom companys mistakes and whilst taking some slate mosaic`s of a small step i cut a wire.It was a single wire so put into a connector and tested. Floor seemed to warm up ok. Its a new bathroom so it hasnt really been used yet.The customer told me that the floor is too hot to stand on in places and he was right, you couldnt stand on certain tiles whilst others were coolish. The fancy controller unit was saying 19 degrees,it was more like 40! Do you think it was installed wrongly? I cant see how my wire being cut and connected back up again would do something like this. Any idea`s guys?

The 19 deg might be the room temperature, not the tile temp. Has the system been installed as a mat or single wire?

Warm up isnt a single wire.............1 runs at its core the other around the outside just the same as coax tv ariel cable. You need 2 seperate connectors for it.

Thanks for the clarification Tony, only I was trying to differentiate between mat and wire set up in case it ( the cable) had been laid too close together.Loose wire may have been a better phrase.

Thanks for the advice. It was a very thin wire and didnt seem to have a core but i will take of the mosiacs again to check.Otherwise he wants me to redo the whole floor with a new UFH system, which i wont complain about mind you as its the bathroom company who will be paying!!!!

Im not sure what system it is as i came in when the bathroom was finished, well finished badly! bit of a tricky one as he insnt dealing with the company anymore and is going through legal proceedings,so cant phone up to ask.:mad2:

Now that the cable has been broke/cut...it has no guarantee from warm-up....so to give a guarantee then it has to be replaced and if this is the companies fault then IMO i would replace it...

Thanks Dave, unfortunately i am nothing to do with the company that fitted it,so this could turn out to be a tricky situation. is there a max temp these mats go to,because as i said earlier, you cant stand on some tiles as they are so hot. This seems wrong to me as it should spread the heat evenly across the whole mat.

It depends on the installation...the wires could have been placed to close together causing them to over heat....bit like a coil..if you see what i mean....the cables are designed to be spaced at a certain interval...around 90mm apart...so if they are a lot closer then it will act like an element and over heat.....i would ring warm-up and see what they say...

OH!! and the cold spots could just be no wires at that location....you won't know unless it is lifted really.......
