I don't on most jobs.. i have used it on large area's like shop walls and that but i like to finish with a hand sponge.. much better tooling to the joint.. no water run marks ..

Same here, not very often at all. You have to really ring the sponge out to prevent dribbles and it can result in you pulling grout out. Too much messing about on most walls so it's just worth sponging. And when I last tiled average wall tiles were a lot smaller, these days they're huge so far less grout joints and a good sponge or two is the way to go.

For floors they're a god send, especially the karl dahm from ************** Home.

Recently started using a washboy but find (like Dave) that it's great for floors but the old "wring and rinse" works better on walls.

Large floor areas only. I like the feel of doing it slowly and cheaking my grout lines instead of hoping its ok, if you know what I mean!

I use the Karl Dahm washboy, they are the best build bar none in my opinion, I use it on walls and floor with no problem. Granted, you do have to wring them out properly for walls, I do the 'normal' roller to get the water out of the sponge but also do an 'extra' as you wring it going forward you get a build up of water to the back of the sponge, as you near the end push the sponge into the front roller and then tilt and push, forcing the water to one corner and then out, then go backwards and do the same thing as you approach the back roller, result, if done right, very little water retention in the sponge.

I got one from Trade tiler 3 weeks ago, I'm a very happy man, brilliant on floors, have used it on walls as well and developed a similar technique to Alan, as I noticed it was wetting the grout a little too much initially, but not now

I use it on large walls for the initial wipe down, then always finish with hand sponge, and as above i keep it very dry. I also use it for cleaning down the walls after the grout has dried before I polish the walls up before finishing.

if used right, a washboy on walls can leave it perfect, no scum, no polishing needed. best on mosaics and small format tiles. i was taught in germany how to use a wasboy in the early 90's, way before you saw them over here. they save time and money.
