Water underfloor heating and stone (travertine)

Hi, i'm looking to have my bathroom tiled with Travertine 600 x 400mm tiles. I have a couple of questions;

1. What is the best way to lay these tiles. There's water based underfloor heating in a 30mm screed set between the joists, which is covered with 18mm floorboard.

2. Would it be easier to just buy marble or something less likely to crack?

Hi Shane,

you'll need to use tile backer board set onto a bed of cement based tile adhesive on the floorboards and screwed as per the instructions
After that you can use any tile material and good flexible adhesive you like but a good quality travertine is just as good as a lot of marble and no more likely to crack.

I would be interested to hear how well the underfloor heating works when you're finished - personally I cannot make sense of putting heating pipes under 18mm of insulating material (ie wood) - anyone else with experience of this type of underfloor heating system?

Hmmm, confused by this. And then overboarded with 18mm floorboards??
The only 35mm (or less) screeds that I've come across are anhydrite. I think we need some more info before we can provide advice, please?
