a combination installation of steelwork and timber,is is a case that the timber has expanded and doesnt have enough expansion gap for any movement causing the cracking round the edges?

The weight of the railing have settled down onto the timber causing the tiles to crack, as others have said expansion joints may have helped..

Subsidence has caused the pillars supporting the balcony to move.
Or an earthquake has caused the cracks.

Morning all .The problem was not the holes in the tiles ,and yes glass was to be installed today .as for the cat um that's the camera bag, the day it happened was a little bit warmer than norm it got to 15 degrees .went out after call and placed a spirit level on the posts instead of being plumb they were 13mm out at the top later that night went and re checked and yes you guessed it they were plumb.the hand rail has been installed solid with no room for expansion (didn't realize aluminium moved that much ) .so the handrail has to come down and tiles fixed (another prob is cant get the same tiles as yet) was a new one on me thought i would share .
