Wet Room ready for Tiling.....Help needed!

Hello all, i have ripped the old bathroom/baths out and redesign the whole room...see pics.

- The walls shower/wet room area is boarded using Marmox boards.
- The floors are boarded with hardie backer boards which was laid untop an existing 22mm board.
- For the Aqua Dec former tray, a play wood had to be cut to the size of the tray 1300x900mm so it can level with the other tray area.
- The outer shower/wet area where the concealed cistern sit is boarded so as the other side with Hardie backer.
- Joining tapes used to join the marmox boards together.

Now going to do the priming, tanking next but before that, i need to get the tiles i'm going to use but not sure which ones:juggle:. I like the travertine ones but the ones i seen are

Ceramic Wall and Floor Travertine, also seen the filled and unfilled honed stone travertine. Which is the best between filled and unfilled? I guess with filled, there are no holes compared to unfilled?

Read in some of the comments on this forum that when u are using filled travertine you will need to seal, grout and seal again....is this correct and what is the best sealant to use.

As in the picture, the tiles i have shown are Cuba and Travertine effect walls tiles (glossy looking) while the one on the floor too is travertine....all are from Wickes.

Any comments regarding the best travertine (filled, unfilled, ceramic) tiles to use are welcome

Hi Skilachi,

Always good practice to seal, grout reseal travertine because it's so porous, whatever format it comes in honed or unhoned. By sealing before grouting you're assisting the grouting process as the tile won't absorb any of the wet grout pigment. Make sure you leave enough time for the sealant to dry before grouting.

Personal taste as to which is better, but the filled and honed is by far more practical. With the unfilled travertine you'll have a build up of dirt in the holes after a period of time. Any natural travertine looks 10 times better than a manufactured alternative in my opinion.
