Hi,

Hope somebody can give me some advice.

I am currently having a lot of work done in my house including new bathrooms. The builder/plumber installed 2 xAqua Dec 900x900.

The tiler has now completed tiling using 400/600 travertine tiles, but disaster-the water is not draining away properly, and just rushes back into the bathroom.

To summarise. The aquadecs were flush fitted and Tilesafe laid over. Electric u/floor heating then installed and then the travertine. Those familiar with the Aquadec system will know with the 900x 900 drain is in the right hand corner.

To achive the fall he has cut the travertine corner to corner, in other words 1 straight cut accross the tiles left corner to right corner diagonally.

The tiler has been tiling for many years, and has admitted it needs to come up. but what does he need to do to rectify.

I am concerned how he is going to get the tiles up without ruining the under floor matting and Tile Safe, indeed if it is possible at all.

I am really worried about all this, as the situation is a disaster at present, and any advice anybody can give would be much appreciated.

Thanks,

Peter

Guys how are you going to get a dip when you are using 60x40 the base only takes 4 tiles your not thinking.

Granted you have points but putting a 60 x 40 on a 900 square just isnt going to happen you have far to much surface tension and cutting that size to the corner is a hard one.

Safety is in working with 30 x 30 down on any wetroom base Mosaic being the obvious and anyone recomending cutting tiles in is asking for work and quite often problems.

I have seen this problem a few times, and historically it has been down to plumber A) fitting a reducer on the 2" solvent weld drain so the tray fills up or B) having an inadequate fall, or C) tiler not getting falls when laying the tiles

Do you have rake cuts to the drain?

Just to keep you informed.

Firstly, thanks for all your help, in particular Wetdecs, who has given me some useful advice and spent a considerable amount of time on the phone with me.

Impey sent a rep around yesterday.

He stated the tiling was most certainly incorrect. There is only 1 diaganol cut corner to corner, and the tiling is almost level! He advised the whole floor will have to be removed. This is because:

1 The Tilesafe may very well be compromised if you just removed the tiles from the Wetdec.

2.He also stated the tiling had not been started from the highest point.

3. There was too much cement under the tiles lifting them to around 20mm(not quite sure why that was a problem)

4. On a seperate note, he also stated Warm up u/floor heating is not ideal with Tilesafe, as it is 150w and max is 100W otherwise problems could arise-he gave example of wet towel left on floor, and Warm up could melt the Tilesafe! He said the Tilesafe guarantee would not be valid with Warm up!

So wrecked floor, u/floor heating and Tilesafe, not to mention the additional problem of removing the screen(Majestic) from the chrome wall channel(which is firmly silliconed in-any suggestions)

When I spoke to the main contractor, (who recommended the tiler!) he could not understand why the whole floor had to be removed. He had spoken to Impey technical and they had told him the you could run the shower on the Tilesafe without tiles it is that effective, so his point is -why not remove the tiles from the ****dec and test it-if it leaks, ok remove the lot, if not just re-tile the ****dec.

At the moment the tiler is not trying to run away, but despite his 30 years experience i am truly concerned at his competence. It is clear the main contractor is going to try and take the short cut route, should i let him try?

I am now really frustrated. I just want the bloody thing sorted.I have spent a fortune on this kit, and it all looks beautul installed, but is useless!

I was thinking of commisioning an independent Experts report, is that a sensible way forward?

Again thanks in anticipation of any help.
