Hi all, new to the forums, just have a few questions.

I bought a Plasplugs mastertiler and tried cutting those cheap white B and Q tiles and it keeps chipping so I went out and bought Plasplugs highly grazed and glass cutter blade and it's still happening. I then proceeded to buy a Sankyo tile/glass blade and it’s still chipping the tiles. I noticed that it had a slight wobble to the blade when you spin it. So I went out and bought another wet saw this one does seem to be straight but it's still chipping the tiles but not as badly. I have tried cutting the tile upside down and it's just the same. I'm letting the saw do the cutting and I’ve even tried masking tape.

So my question is can you cut glazed tile without them chipping and also I want to put a mirrored border around and I've tried cutting this and guess what it's chipping too. I really need your help I'm starting to get really :furious3: with this now.

Thanks

hello and welcome to the forums........i have heard of problems with those saws having bent spindles on delivery....you shouldn't be getting chipping with a good cutting blade etc etc.....take the cutters back and exchange again...check for play and a wobble on the spindle/blade..

.some of the members who have them should reply with there solutions as well..........

good luck...

Agreed about the spindles i tried 3 machines and then went all through the local B&Q s stock only to find they were all out of line or bent, Eventually got a good one from machine mart.
I take it you are using the machine with plenty of water.
As stated before it could just be the tiles. Cant say though that i have had any that were like that.

Hi, Thanks for the quick replys, I will try cutting a different tile and see what happens. I have the water level above the min mark and the tiles are getting wet when I start to cut them.
Also does neone have that makita 12v cordless tile/glass cutter and whats it like will it cut glass without chipping it?

Thank again

I would try a different tile 1st.
As for the Makita, its good...at times and hopeless at other times. Like all tools it does have its uses, IMO though they are pretty limited. Got rid of mine years ago, i seem to have mananged without it.
If you do buy one you will need a few batteries as spare. they didnt last too long. As for cutting quality on normal ceramics it was ok.

I find if I am having problems cutting tiles and chipping then I use an old blade which is worn "thinner" and it cuts far better, but I have only ever had this happen badly on one type of tile, a B&Q special.

Macrist blade are meant to be very good for the Master tiler, though while I have a Master tiler, I don't have a macrist blade for it yet.

Hi all Well I tried a floor tile with no glaze and it did not chip but I tried another better quality glazed tile and i'm still getting little chips out the glaze, I also tried blunting the blade a little by running a house brick though the blade. I feel like doing this :mad2:

Is chipping the norm when cutting glazed tiles? or do I need to buy another better blade like the rubi CVG. or a better wet saw. I've been trying to get this to work the last 3 days. I really need to be able to cut mirror tiles but if i cut a glazed tile without chipping do I stand a chance on cutting glass?

I'm really stumped on this one and any help on this would be greatly appriecated

Thanks

S0nnet
