ive just been to price bathroom . walls and floor.
the walls are all stud work , having been boarded with 22mm ply.

question is adhesive. what adhesive is best ? in the past i have used ready mixed ardicol. says no need for priming, but have done anyway.
but have had promlems with the grout dis colouring , going brown , like it is bleeding thorgh the grout .
i done the kitchen walls and floor 10 years ago , and it still looks like new.
so i rearly want to get the bathroom right .
the clients are as good as gold and told me that the price with in reason is not a problem they just want is right.

2 part flex on floor . flex grout for walls and floor.
its just the wall adhesive .
what would you use ? and would you prime?( normaly use bal primer)
help ...

Normally if the grout goes brown it means water is getting behind the tiles and the ply is staining the grout. And i would definitely prime and sometimes i skim the ply with a very thin coat of adhesive and let that dry then start tiling in the normal way. And suggest tanking if its in an area that's going to get wet, shower etc.

Regarding primer; read this. It also applies to adhesive.

As long as your use a a flexible cement based adhesive meant for vertical surfaces, you should be ok. If in doubt, read the manufacturer's guidelines.

If the the adhesive has "bled through" to the grout, you've grouted too early, and haven't given the adhesive enough time to cure properly. Again, read the product specs for dying times etc.

It's also possible that you've mixed the grout with the wrong proportion of water.

Edit: As Enduro says, it might also be the ply, but I've never come across that, because I've never tiled onto ply, as it's forbidden to use wooden substrates when tiling over here

never a promlem on plasterboard walls , and i dont do any thing different.

the adhevise didnt come through . it was more brown, and some time later.
may have water geting behind. im normaly more care full.
but the ply was primed. if it was down to me i would prefer to tile on plaster board or backer board.
i may get back to the fella and get the shower area boarded over with something else
