What gauge of trowel

Hi All


What gauge of trowel should I use for bathroom floor?was thinking 10mm. Travertine mosaic stone with BAL adhesive.

i tend to use a 10mm round notch for good floors, but no reason why a mosaic trowel wont be ok.

It is 10mm round notch that I have.So that should do for the job, I didnt know their was such a thing as mosaic trowl,What is the difference?

sorry i i read you had a mosaic trowl, its a V notch i believe that fives a 100% coverage.
take you time with the natural stone mosaics, bit of a pain to get flat maybe step it down to an 8mm, also use white spf

Could you explain in a in little more detail please? this is all new to me.Last night I laid out the hole floor and done all my cuts and numbered with a pencil then lifted and ready to go,wanting to make sure I do every thing spoton all the gear was a bit expensive.

Selecting your trowell size depends on a few things.

1, Size of the format ( Larger format larger the notch)

2, thickness of the tile ( Thicker tiles you can use larger notch) ie Thick stone mosaics say 100mmx100mm an 8mm would be ok. Small thin mosaics like glass and vitrified need smaller notches.

Your kit should consist of 6mm 8 and 10 you might need to experiment with a couple to make sure you get good coverage without addy sqeezing up through the joints. A small nailbrush is a great tool for cleaning any stray addy, keeping clean is very important whilst working with stone.

im putting some 450 x 300 cermaics up on a walls in a couple of weeks. i usually use a solid bed thick bed 12mm jobie. would a 8mm square notch rubi be ok/

Thanks Mick I have already started to put them down stopped a light refreshment. when you say about stray addy, in some of the joints there is stray addy but not seeping above the level of the tile is that ok or should the joints be perfectly clean please don't say yes.Also where I have stopped and scarped up the excess addy from the ply. I have wiped up the floor with a sponge and gave a light hover to lift any loose stuff is it Ok to just start tilling again on that are or do I have to reseal it with sealer? when if first sealed it I gave it 3 coats.

Hi Kenny,

That all sounds fine mate, as long as there is no addy above the surface that's fine. You won't have to reseal the plywood if you wipe up excess addy.
